I’ve been using Beachbody products since 2003 when I saw an infomercial for the original Power 90 early one Sunday morning. Thinking it looked intriguing, I immediately ordered it. I had been an athlete growing up, but I had hit a mid-20s slump and had gotten skinny and soft. Sitting at a desk all day didn’t allow me to eat whatever I wanted anymore.
The 1st time I did the workout was brutal. I remember not being able to keep my arms in the air the whole time during knees up arms up. In 2 weeks I went from the level 1-2 disc to the 3-4 disc. I finished the 90 days looking and feeling great. I was a Beachbody customer for life. One of the things that helped motivate me during this time were my daily visits to the Message Boards. Reading about people’s transformations and struggles along the way was inspiring.
Around this time on the message boards there were rumblings that Tony was developing a new more advanced program, P90X. I scoured the boards multiple times daily to see what new info I could gather. After many months P90X was finally available for order. I was one of the lucky first few hundred customers of P90x who received a signed copy by the man himself, Tony Horton.
Day 1 Chest & Back, I couldn’t have been more excited. That excitement turned to disappointment very quickly when I was only able to muster 1 or 2 real pull-ups. I felt like a failure. The message boards helped immensely when I learned that many people were also struggling with pull-ups. Over the course of the 90 days I got stronger and by the end I could do 10 wide-fronts unassisted. P90X really changed the way I looked at exercise, and especially what could be accomplished at home.
Over the years I have done many rounds of P90X as well as Slim Series, P90X+, P90 Advanced, ChaLean Extreme, Power Half-hour, Brazil Butt Lift, One on Ones, and Insanity. Insanity fundamentally changed what I thought a hard workout was. After you finish an Insanity month 2 workout the rest of your day seems easy. Every time I finish one of the month 2 DVDs I think today is going to be a breeze, nothing else that happens today could challenge me the way this has, work, kids, nothing.
I have been very good about sticking with the workouts over the years without ever taking too much time off between programs. Eating has always been a bit of a struggle for me. It’s always been hard for me to go more than 3-4 days of eating perfect before I break down and need to go out to dinner or have a few beers. This past holiday season was my worst point since I started in 2003. I stopped exercising the week before Christmas and drank everything in sight for a few weeks. I kept telling myself that I would get back on the wagon hardcore when Asylum came out.
The day before the Superbowl I was surfing the web trying to find out anything I could about Asylum when I stumbled across Coach Wayne’s transformation at Teamripped.com. I was truly floored with the incredible transformation he made in 90 days. I felt an incredible new found motivation that has not subsided. I started P90X that Monday and have eaten perfect since then. I am now in month 2 of the Hybrid and have had no cheat days and never missed a workout. I feel incredible and am literally the strongest I’ve ever been in my life. I am recharged and very excited to continue the journey.
I added pics to show my 180lb skinny fat guy frame from 2003. I’ve had 3 shoulder surgeries from multiple dislocations playing football. Before I started Power 90 I used my shoulders as an excuse for not lifting weights anymore. It hurt so I didn’t do it. My shoulder was so bad I once dislocated it while I was sleeping. Pushups hurt at first with P90, but I pushed through. As I became stronger my shoulders stopped hurting and so did the dislocations.
