Simple Decisions, Big Results!

Hey Team!  I just want to take a moment to encourage all of you to remind yourself of your “Why”.  If you have fallen off the wagon – GET BACK ON!!  Stop feeling bad about the mistakes you have made and move on.

You can’t succeed without knowing failures along the way.  Jeff and I both have been Beachbody customers since the early 2000’s but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that we really understood what it means to be committed, fully committed.  The results of that understanding has now lead to some great results and the confidence to know that after this baby is born, I can do it again.   And I look forward to it!  But until that time, there were plenty of unfinished programs, cheat nights, and frustration as to why I wasn’t getting infomercial results.  Well, now I know the reason and each day is new day and a new challenge.  In order to get it done you have to consistently renew your commitment to the program and your diet EVERY DAY.  Treat every day like Day 1 and you won’t fail.

So how exactly to do this.  I am sure for the majority of us, Day 1 was easy.  Your “Why” is fresh in your mind, your commitment is at it’s peak.  But to take that enthusiasm into Day 2 and beyond, it gets increasingly difficult – especially as your brain realizes that working out isn’t always fun and eating an apple instead of a bag of chips doesn’t give the same dopamine (pleasure) release either.  Here is where you should apply a very key principle I learned from a book I recently finished called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson.  Fabulous read and I highly recommend it.  The one point (of many) in the book that sticks with me each day is that you have to make the simple, small decisions over and over again and make them right.  Let me say that again: Make the simple, small decisions over and over again and make them right.

What do I mean by this?  It sounds like a no brainer but we are not talking about the decision to “eat right” or “start doing P90X”.  Those decisions aren’t the important ones believe it or not.  It’s the ones that come after.  For example, is that soda you drink today going to kill or harm you today?  No, but over and over, day in and day out it will lead to excess weight, bad health and so on.  Will the decision not to work out today going to hamper your results?  Maybe not , but skip 2, 3, more…will start that slippery slope and certainly sabotage your end game.

So for those of you in the midst of your program and struggling, I urge you to think about every move you make as a decision you need to make.  You need to DECIDE to put on your seatbelt, DECIDE to reach for that bottle of water and not the soda, DECIDE to press play, DECIDE to brush your teeth.  You get the point.  Make those simple, seemingly brainless decisions the right way each day and the payoff will be more than you could have imagined.  And as an added bonus, you can apply this to every area in your life and you will find success in many more ways too.

So to add to Beachbody’s slogan:

Don’t be fooled by the calendar.  There are only as many days in the year as you make use of.  ~Charles Richards

Very well said coaches. What I needed to here after getting absolutely blitzed by divorced talk, consideration of brankruptcy court and job transitions. It's been a lot. Whew!
